Setup Wattvision Overview

The basic steps for setting up Wattvision are:

  1. Connect the Wattvision Gateway to the Internet.
  2. Mount the Sensor on your meter, and then
  3. enter your Gateway ID at Wattvision.com and associate it with your account.

This is the Wattvision Gateway.

You must choose ETHERNET or WIFI for your connection.

2. Mount Sensor on Your Electric Meter

Ok, here's where you mount the sensor to your meter -- follow the instructions below for your meter type (choose Analog, Digital Top, or Digital Front, Below). Set it up, and then go to step 3.

When set up correctly, the SENSOR LED on the GATEWAY will TOGGLE on and off. So it will stay on for a while, then stay off for a while, etc. It changes every time a new 'pulse' comes in from the meter, whether it's the black spot passing on the disk analog meters, or an infrared pulse coming in. Each "pulse" represents a quantity of energy, and that's how your meter works.

2A) Analog Sensors

After you set up your analog sensor, make sure you note the multiplier value on the meter, which will be important to enter on Wattvision.com.

  • Slide the clamp on the meter, as shown about 1/2 to 1 inch back from the front face of the meter
  • Tighten the clamp hand tight.
  • Slide the fixture on the clamp till the L bracket is in line with the disk in the meter.
  • The rubber plate should be tight and flush on the face of the meter.
  • The sensor will emit a red light, point the light onto the edge of the rotating disk.
  • The beam of light should hit just to the right of the center-point of the disk (1/2" inch or less from the center).
  • Hand-tighten the knob on the sliding fixture.
  • As the black spot on the disk goes under the red light, the yellow light on the sensor should turn on and off.

2B) Digital Top Sensors

After you set up your digital sensor, make sure you note the multiplier value on the meter, which will be important to enter on Wattvision.com.

  • Find the Infrared emitter port, under the glass of the meter. It looks like a clear pencil eraser, on top of your meter.
  • Position the Sensor so the hole in the sensor probe is directly over the infrared emitter.
  • You should see the green LED on the sensor start to turn on and off. You may need to wait a minute per toggle, depending on the energy consumption of your house.
  • Make sure the sensor is strapped on as tight as possible.

2C) Digital Front Sensors

  1. Find the infrared port on the front of the meter.

3. Create an Account at Wattvision.com.

Visit the Wattvision Dashboard.

Add your Site (In this case, we added "My Cool House").

Then select Wattvision Gateway 2 from the "Associate Sensor" dropdown. If you already have a sensor, choose sensor settings, disassociate from the previous sensor, and add this sensor.

4. Congrats! At this point, you will see data appearing in your Wattvision Account.

You should start seeing data appear on your live page. One important thing to note is that in sensor settings, you may need to enter your meter multiplier information to make sure we're tracking the data correctly. This is common for analog meters and some digital meters. Contact us at [email protected] with questions. Or see the Troubleshooting page for more help.
